It would help if I sent things to the right URL… and to my own domain…

When she first ran for the seat (after her candidacy was parachuted in by Jean Chretien, natch) she needed to quickly get her image in the community - which was unknown to her - established. I was living there for a few years (actually, about seven, ending with my escape to the GTA just over three years ago) and noticed her election signs everywhere - lawns, corners, shop windows - all adorned with a photo of this (at the time) well-polished blonde who admittedly was nicer to look at than the competition.

Why am I being so shallow, focusing on her appearance? Well that was Sam’s modus operandi too. Rumours started going around that we now had a hottie Liberal candidate who was strutting her stuff as much as possible, as publicly as possible. So, naturally, I check out the Dundas West subway station and, sure enough, she’s out there, blonde hair flying in the breeze, short miniskirt, come-f*ck-me high-heels, the whole works.

People started to complain. That didn’t fit in with the image of the area at the time… although it is now more of a trendy spot at the time it seemed to be populated with older Polish women and babushkas more than anything else. So, her campaign office received phone calls, complaints, etc. about Sam’s image, and that it needed to change.

She obviously took this to heart, and considered the wishes of her (soon-to-be) community.

Next day: shorter miniskirt (think Sharon Stone), higher heels. Hubba hubba. Although not too bad to look at, it didn’t look good for that riding with Sam in its future.

So, she doesn’t give a toss about her constituents, sells out consumer protections to Hollywood, and threatens litigation when challenged. What’s not to like?

We’re not making this up.

Choose a Fiberal-free Canada this time around!

The GO Girls are divided: some are going with the flow and will be voting Conservative, but others — especially Busy — will be voting Liberal. Why Liberal? Because they always do. And Harper is scary. And being scary is worse than being robbed blind by those who have had a lot of practice. I wish I was exaggerating…

Interestingly I hear a lot of people in the various buildings downtime discussing their options. Usually in pairs, one leaning Conservative and the other a die-hard Liberal (that pattern is getting familiar). The best one I heard is that Harper will invoke the notwithstanding clause to outlaw gay marriages… his companion didn’t seem too impressed. Interesting, especially as Stephen says he’ll go for an open vote in Parliament… but maybe the Liberal is just used to his party of choice not keeping their promises and doing whatever the hell they want to do.

… like maybe a different train car (sounds like some of the real Liberal candidates… they don’t want to play nice and would rather play quietly somewhere else, like sabotaging their own campaigns because they’d rather not spend the years in Opposition).

In the rest of Brampton it’s hard to get an accurate pulse. Almost no one will commit by putting a sign on their lawn (and if they do, it’s more of a tit-for-tat, you put up a Tory sign, they put up a Liberal one… and that’s that — two signs for the street, everything in balance). My last neighbourhood in Toronto, by way of contrast, is a crowded field of orange (hard to believe I’m saying this: go Peggy Nash! Whip your NDP campaign into shape and kick Sarmite Bulte’s ass!).
